Ice cream is very important to me. A new trend that has been sweeping “foodie” Instagram accounts is rolled ice cream. Which is exactly what it sounds like. Ice cream is poured, melted, onto a surface that is very, very cold. Toppings are added, and then the ice cream is spread out into a very thin layer. From there it is, you guessed it, rolled.
This trend started in Thailand, and found its way to New York City, before making its way to Philadelphia, where a local kid decided to open one up. Sweet Charlie’s is a sweet (haha) little ice cream shop right in the heart of center city that will absolutely CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
They have a variety of toppings and add-ins that you can get in your sundae, and they give you so much ice cream. It’s seriously heaven for those of you with a sweet tooth. It is such a nice treat to grab in the heat of the summer and enjoy in the park right across the street. (Just watch out for squirrels there because they will sit on you).
The line is sometimes long, but it is definitely worth the wait. I had an internship in the city in the summer and I made my mom (who also works in the city) go here with me after I heard about it because I was dying to try it. It was definitely worth the wait, and they were really good about moving the line very quickly.
Rolled ice cream is such an interesting phenomena, but it definitely lives up to the hype. If you’re in Philadelphia, definitely swing by and grab some because it is delicious, and so fun. Even if you are someone who does not usually like to get involved with the hype, who could say no to ice cream?!
